The Skills Enhancement Fund
Calderdale College is responsible for managing the region’s largest business support package, The Skills Enhancement Fund. The £50m fund aims to improve the region’s skills base by providing funding towards training costs for employers and is co-financed by the Skills Funding Agency through the European Social Fund and funded by Yorkshire Forward.
Launched in October 2008, the fund has so far:
- Supported over 9,000 of the region’s businesses
- Contracted with providers and employers to assist over 50,000 individuals
- Committed over ÂŁ15m to training activity specifically designed to address skills gaps and sector needs
Quote from Chris Jones, Principal of Calderdale College:
"The Skills Enhancement Fund is playing a major role in maintaining and improving business competitiveness in Yorkshire and the Humber. Our role is to support all partners in ensuring business gets the training and skills development it needs."
A recent independent evaluation commissioned by the Skills Funding Agency highlighted the significant impact that the Skills Enhancement Fund support has had on many of the region’s businesses. More information on the evaluation can be found here.
