Dance Academy
Calderdale College Dance Academy is a unique provision that offers continuous professional dance training and performance opportunities for all Performing Arts Dance students. The Dance Academy aspires to operate as a centre of excellence in nurturing the talent and potential of emerging artists.
The Dance Academy provides a diverse training programme to develop technical, creative and performance dance skills and prepare learners both physically and mentally for a career in dance.
A rolling programme of subjects including Limbering, Contemporary, Jazz, Commercial, Urban and Lyrical are delivered by industry professionals to allow for a greater provision of genres to be taught. Guest teachers are an invaluable part of the programme; they inspire learners through professional practice and in sharing first-hand knowledge, understanding, expertise and experience of the industry.
The Dance Academy provides regular performance opportunities for students both locally and as part of regional youth dance platforms.
The Dance Academy is currently hosted at Whiteleys Academy of Performing Arts. W.A.P.A. houses some of the best Dance Studios in West Yorkshire. The premises in Halifax town centre expanded in 2005 to an impressive 700sq. metre studio complex, within easy walking distance of the bus station and town centre. Within the Academy there are now 3 dance studios, 2 reception areas, a wardrobe department, separate male & female changing facilities, the Starburst Shop and a brand-new, state-of-the-art studio theatre with wheelchair access. Fingerprint scanner entry/exit and closed-circuit television covers the communal areas of the building to help to ensure the safety and security of the students and their belongings.
