AM2 Assessment of Occupational Competence

Practical Skills Test

Calderdale College is one of only three AM2 Test Centres in the whole of Yorkshire, our location in the Pennines also makes us an accessible test centre for Lancashire too. You should take your AM2 Test at the end of your Level 3 Apprenticeship. Our testing facility is available for you to take your test - even if you have carried out your training in a different training centre.

Description

Our testing facility is available for you to take your test even if you have carried out your training at a different college.

The AM2 is the Electrotechnical industry standard assessment for occupational competence. The Achievement Measurement (AM2) Assessment of Electrotechnical Occupational Competence is designed to confirm that an individual who wishes to practice in the Electrotechnical industry, either as an Installation Electrician or Maintenance Electrician, can demonstrate that they are qualified and have the correct levels of competence expected by the industry.

On successful completion, candidates will be issued with an AM2 certificate by National Electrotechnical Training (NET), which is the organisation who administers Assessments of Competency in the Electrotechnical industry.

Candidates should wear suitable work clothing and sound footwear - shorts are not allowed in the testing centre. If you feel you may need some additional preparatory work then book onto one of our AM2 Test Preparation Days.

All tools, testing equipment and training manuals are provided by Calderdale College.

Application Process:

To book onto your AM2 Test or re-sit, please contact Simon Holdsworth on 01422 357357 (Ext 9755) or email simonh@calderdale.ac.uk to check availability for your preferred dates. Please note that we're one of only three test centres in Yorkshire so early booking is recommended. Payment, by either your training provider, employer or yourself must be made before the date of your test.

The AM2 Test runs every week and takes three days to complete. You can choose to take your test from Monday to Wednesday or Tuesday to Thursday. On the day of the test, please bring with you your NET Candidate Self Assessment and one form of photo ID i.e. passport or driving licence. On successful completion of your NVQ Level 3 and AM2 Test you can apply for a JIB Registration. This is not automatic and therefore can't be included in our package.

Entry Requirements

Prior to the test you MUST take the NET Self Assessment. It is designed to help assess if an individual is adequately prepared and trained in all aspects of the Level 3 qualification which will be tested during the AM2. NET provides some Candidate Guidance and Common Mistakes information - we strongly advise you to read these beforehand. The AM2 Test covers all aspects of Domestic, Industrial and Motors and Controllers electrical work - you must be familiar with all three elements to pass the test.
