AM2 Preparation Day - Achievement Measurement 2 Preparation DayPreparation Day
Calderdale College is one of only three AM2 Test Centres in the whole of Yorkshire, our location in the Pennines also makes us an accessible test centre for Lancashire too. You should take your AM2 test at the end of your Level 3 Apprenticeship. Our testing facility is available for you to take your test - even if you have carried out your training in a different training centre.
This course is designed to provide preparation for those candidates about to take their AM2 Test. It is not mandatory but highly recommended.
The purpose of the AM2 is to ensure that all qualifying installation electricians achieve a single standard that has been agreed by the employers in the industry as meeting their expectations from newly qualified personnel. The content, structure and marking of the assessment is designed to produce evidence that a candidate has gained all the relevant safety critical competencies during their training process. The AM2 provides a reliable and trusted independent assessment of safe, high quality standards for the electrical installation industry and is highly valued by employers, who regard it as proof of competence for an electrician.
The AM2 is compulsory for apprentices, adult trainees or upskilling workers who seek to gain industry recognised qualified status; raising the overall safety and skill levels and ensuring that candidates from various routes have the skills employers need.
This preparation day is designed to give candidates additional preparation before taking their AM2 Test. Prior to taking the AM2 Test, all candidates must complete a NET Self Assessment. This will help you identify any areas where you may want a bit of extra practice.
To pass the AM2 test, candidates will be expected to install, terminate, connect, inspect, test, commission and diagnose faults in accordance with the installation specification provided by the assessor and in accordance with the relevant statutory and non-statutory regulations on the following:
- Lighting and power circuits
- A three-phase distribution board and sub-circuit
- A central heating/sustainable energy system
- A safety services circuit and device
- A data cabling system
The preparation day will start with a presentation that will highlight some of the more common areas of weakness for candidates who don't pass, the best installation approach to take for each circuit and how to maximise your chances of achieving AM2 assessment standard. You will have the opportunity to go through each circuit in turn and make sure you have a clear place of how to tackle your assessment. Having a detailed knowledge of what you have to do, how best to do it and what to prioritise if you start to run out of time. This preparation can help to remove much of the stress that most candidates feel prior to assessment and give you a far better chance of success.
You won't be allowed in the actual test centre until the day of the test, however our workshop has areas where you can practice similar exercises to those you will be asked to do in the AM2 Test Centre.
All tools, testing equipment and manuals are provided by Calderdale College. Candidates should wear suitable work clothing and sound footwear - shorts are not allowed in the testing centre.
The AM2 Preparation days are run on a monthly basis and we have two upcoming dates - 27th May and 24th June. To book onto the AM2 Preparation Day please contact Winston or Josh on 01422 399339 or email email@example.com. Please note that we are one of only three test centres in Yorkshire so early booking is recommended.
Payment by either your training provider, employer or yourself must be made before the date of the test. If a group booking is made for 10 people on the same date, a 10% discount will be applied to the invoice. On the day, please bring your NET Candidate Self Assessment.
Prior to the AM2 Test you must take the NET Self Assessment. It is designed to help assess if an individual is adequately prepared and trained in all aspects of the Level 3 qualification which will be tested during the AM2. It is recommended that you take the self assessment prior to the preparation day so that you can be focussed on the areas that you need to practice. NET also provide some Candidate Guidance and Common Mistakes information, we advise you to read these before hand.
