Intermediate Apprenticeship for the Children & Young People's Workforce Level 2
This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working under supervision with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas working in children's settings.
This qualification provides you with the core knowledge and skills needed to work in a supervised support role with children or young people. Completion of the mandatory units equips you with the essential knowledge and skills required to work in a supervised support role within a childcare setting, whilst the optional units allow you to choose specific areas of study that will broaden the range of duties you can undertake.
Delivery can be tailored to you and your workplace requirements and can either be day release to college one day a week or total delivery within the workplace.
Course Leader profile
I have worked at Calderdale College for 15 Years as a Training Officer/Assessor for Childcare apprenticeships; my role means I am involved in the recruitment and support of Apprentices at the start and throughout their programme. Prior to this role I have worked in a number areas of the childcare sector so have some experience and knowledge of working in Nursery schools, Crèches and Private Day Nurseries. While assessing and supporting Apprentices practical competence It allows me to see how their confidence and knowledge grows during the course and them eventually becoming qualified childcare practitioners.
It would be desirable to come with GCSE in Maths and English at a minimum of Grade E or Grade 2. Learners will need to be in paid employment within a suitable childcare setting for at least 30 hours per week.

Who is the course for?
The course is for anyone working in a childcare setting or service for at least 30 hour per week and wants to gain a childcare qualification.
What will be studied?
To achieve the qualification learners will need to achieve a minimum of 35 credits.

Certificate in Children & Young People's Workforce Development - Level 2
How is the course assessed?
The course will be assessed by a range of methods which will include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or tasks. All the assessment criteria of the chosen units must be achieved in order to obtain a pass. All work is submitted online and via the Calderdale College e-portfolio system.
Are there any opportunities for progression?
Having completed your Apprenticeship at Level 2 you can move on to the Advanced Apprenticeship subject to meeting the programme entry requirements at that level.
