The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design builds and enhances your existing skills and techniques. It offers a specialist qualification that focuses on specific jobs within the Art and Design industry.

Description

On this innovative and creative programme you will study the main areas of Art & Design, developing skills in:

  • Mixed Media
  • Graphics
  •  3D
  • Fashion
  • Textiles;

You will then specialise in your chosen area. You will also learn about the creative industries, allowing you to map your future progression. During the course you will have the opportunity to gain vocational experience and participate in the annual fashion show

Teaching

Teaching includes lectures and demonstrations, seminars and tutorials.

Course Leader profile

Marc Burton

I graduated in 1999 with a Jewellery/Metalsmithing degree and worked as an independent artist gaining years of industrial experience, moving into teaching jewellery as a city and guilds qualification level 2 and 3 part time, then into an NCFE Level 2,3. In 2007 I gained my PGCE  and continued to work as an Artist as well as teaching specialist 3D, Jewellery, Mixed Media and Sculpture. In 2014 I took over the BTEC Level  2 in Art and Design as Course Leader and continue teaching this course as well working across other levels of Art and Design including Level 1 and Level 3. My specialisms include most aspects of 2d aspects Art and Design with a specialist focus on 3D Metalsmithing and mixed Media.

Entry Requirements

An intermediate course suitable for those who have at least 4 GCSEs at grade D or grade 3 to include Maths or English or a relevant/equivalent Level 1 qualification. This could be a BTEC Introductory Diploma, a City and Guilds qualification, an NVQ Level 1, a GNVQ Foundation or relevant work experience. Applicants will be asked to show examples of their work at interview.

Interview Process

An interview with a specialist tutor where you will be required to show a portfolio of work, enthusiasm and a commitment to the course.

Assessment is continuous based on set projects and two external examinations.

Are there any opportunities for progression?

Candidates may wish to progress to the BTEC Level 3 Diplomas in: Art & Design and study Graphics, Art & Design, 3D/Interior Design, Fashion/Textiles, Fine Art or Media.
