BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport

This full time one year course concentrates on sport, exercise and fitness. It identifies different careers and roles in the sports industry and uses the theory learnt in the classroom and transfer it to practical knowledge.

The BTEC course provides learning around a selection of outdoor and adventurous activities. This is developed further through participation in a selection of activities and time spent on a residential.

Description

The course will focus on a selection of units that cover a variety of topics relating to sport, physical activity, exercise and fitness. Some of the units covered may include:

  • Participating in sport.
  • Understanding the leisure industry.
  • Physical preparation for sport.
  • Planning and delivering sports sessions.¬†
  • Healthy lifestyles.

The outdoor and adventurous activities aspect of the year will include participation in a selection of water and land based outdoor activities. This will include the theoretical content surrounding the activities and may incorporate a residential where further application of skills can be put into practice.

Course Leader profile

Kathryn Beckley

Kathryn is the level 1 & 2 Sport Course Leader and lecturer across levels 1-3 in Sport. She has worked within the Sports Department at Calderdale College for several years after completing her BSc (Hons) in Exercise, Physical Activity and Health and PGCE at Huddersfield University. She is also a  level 2 trained gym instructor and qualified coach in a selection of sports.

Entry Requirements

An intermediate course suitable for those who have at least 4 GCSEs at grade D or grade 3 to include Maths and English or a relevant/equivalent Level 1 qualification at merit or above and a satisfactory reference from your school or current tutor. Candidates will be considered with relevant work experience.

Interview with specialist tutor.

How is the course assessed?

Assessment occurs via a wide range of activities including written assignments, individual and group presentations and practical observations.

Are there any opportunities for progression?

Achievement of a merit or higher grade will allow progression onto a Level 3 programme of study. You can seek a career in the sports industry such as a coach, health and fitness or leisure centre assistant.
