BTEC Level 3 Diploma Sport (Extended Diploma)
This is the second year of a two year programme. This course is suitable for learners who are interested in a career in the sports, health and fitness industry. The course is designed to give you the opportunity to develop a range of skills and knowledge to prepare you for employment or Higher Education.
In the second year, a further nine units will be examined to achieve the Level 3 Sport Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A Levels). Progression onto the second year of study is dependant upon successful completion of the Level 3 Sport 90 Credit Diploma. Progression is also dependant upon satisfactory attendance, punctuality and adherence to deadlines.
Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to participate in a number of trips and visits, some of which will involve overnight stays. Some trips and visits will be an integral part of your course and could form part of your final assessment, therefore attendance is compulsory. Trips and visits that have been arranged in the past include:

- International Sports Competitions
- The National Football Museum
- Old Trafford
- English Institute of Sport (Sheffield)
- Sport City (Manchester Velodrome)
- Snow Zone
- The Lake District Residential
On completion of your study opportunities onto higher education courses including: Sports Coaching, Sports Development, Sport and Exercise Science, Teaching, Sports Management, Sports Business, Sports Therapy, Sports Nutrition and Sports Psychology.

Course Leader profiles
Graduated from Liverpool John Moores University having completed a BSc (Hons) Degree in Sport and Exercise Science as well as a PGCE in Further Education from Huddersfield University. Craig joined Calderdale College in 2007 having worked across various FE and Secondary Schools in South Yorkshire. Currently the Assistant Curriculum Manager for Science and Health Industries, Lead Interval Verifier (Sports) and still teaching on the Level 3 Sports course, Craig has a real passion for sport and more specifically football where he has represented many non-league teams.
Jade joined Calderdale College in 2009 after completing her PGCE at Huddersfield University. Previously to this, Jade completed a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science where she developed a keen interest in the field of exercise physiology and worked in a university undertaking research in the field. At Calderdale College, Jade is a Level 3 Sport Course Leader who teaches across a range of units.
Grades A*- C or grades 9 -4 including English, Maths and Science. It would also be beneficial to have a relevant level 2 qualification in Sport e.g. GCSE Physical Education or BTEC Level 2 Sport at grade Merit. Candidates will require a satisfactory reference from their school or current tutor.

What makes the course special?

How is the course assessed?
You will be assessed using a variety of methods such as written assignments, presentations, podcasts, research projects, video analysis and practical observations. Continual assessment takes place throughout this course and therefore the importance of time management is greatly emphasised.
Are there any opportunities for progression?
If successful you may progress to degree subjects at university such as Sports Therapy, Sport and Exercise Science, Physiotherapy, Physical Education and Support Studies. Possible careers include: Sports Psychologist, Health and Fitness Advisors, Sports Development
