NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate and Extended Diploma in Health and Social CareNCFE CACHE
The course will focus on a selection of units that cover a variety of topics relating to health and social care. This qualification is made up of units each representing a small step of learning.
Some of the mandatory units covered may include:
- Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care
- Human growth and development
- Safeguarding and protection in health and social care
- Communication in health and social care
- Working in health and social care
There are also optional units which may include:
- Nutrition for health and social care
- Creative activities in health and social care
- Health and well being
Lectures, in classroom activities, work placement within the health and social care sector. Learners are encouraged to attend work placement in order to support their learning. We recommend 50 hours of placement in a real work environment.
Course Leader profile
Anne Marie Richardson
I have 35 years’ experience in the Health and Social care sector. I started my career at 16 years of age working in a Psychiatric unit in Bradford West Yorkshire. I have experience of all areas of Health and Social care, from a care assistant to Care Manager. I believe this gives me a vital life experience of which I can bring to the classroom and so to my teaching and learning. My qualifications are NVQ Level 1, 2, 3 and 4 in Health and Social care, BSC 1.2 Class Honours Degree in Health and Social Welfare, I also have a PGCE qualification in teaching within my subject specialism area. My passion for teaching within this specialist area shows in my personality and teaching. I would like to pass on my knowledge and passion to my students; I support each of my students to achieve their qualification and to share my passion within their employability of Health and Social Care.
Learners must be aged at least 16 and possess 4 GCSE Grades at D or Grade 5 or above including English.

What makes the course special?
The course provides learners with the knowledge and understanding essential to the health and social care sector, supporting progression to further learning or the workplace. Our experienced tutors have worked in relevant vocational areas. They have worked in the health and social care setting therefore has practical experience as well as knowledge and skills they bring to the classroom.
How is the course assessed?
All units will be assessed in line with the CACHE assessment principles. This qualification is assessed on a grading system. The qualification is graded A*-D. Learners must achieve a pass grade for the unit assessments for the 5 mandatory units and 2 optional units. Assessment can include a portfolio of evidence. Assessment occurs via a wide range of activities including written assignments, individual and group presentations and practical observations.
Are there any opportunities for progression?
Upon achievement of this qualification, learners will be able to progress onto further learning or to employment within the health and social care sector. The Extended Diploma supports direct progression to the CACHE Level 3 Award, Certificate and Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care.
