CACHE Diploma

This is a one year programme designed for people who are aged 16 - 18 and 19+ who would like to work in a supporting role in private day nurseries, education, health authorities, social services and in private homes with young children under the age of 8. They will also spend two days a week on work placement.

Description

The course teaches the skills, knowledge and understanding to pursue employment and/or progress to the Level 3 if successful. You will spend two days a week on work placement, as well as studying a variety of subjects including:

  • Child Development
  • Communication
  • Play and Activities
  • Safeguarding
  • Observation and Planning
  • Early Years Foundation Curriculum
  • Health and Safety

You will carry out practical activities, group work & individual course work

The learners will gain knowledge in College and be assessed on their skills in placement.

Teaching

Teaching will include lectures, practical experience, outside speakers and work placement. The programme is unit based.

Samantha Emsley

I have been trained and involved within the childcare sector for 15 years and achieved the Kirklees Level 3 Quality Assurance Certificate in Childcare through which I supported and mentored other learners. Through enjoying the experience of supporting others to improve their own outcomes, I completed the PGCE at Huddersfield University and have worked for the last five years within the childcare and Health team here at Calderdale college. My passion is inspiring learners to reach their full potential and to become a worthy practitioner within the care sector.

Entry Requirements

An intermediate course suitable for people aged 16-18 and 19+ who have at least 4 GCSE Grade at D or Grade 3 or or above including English Language or a relevant/equivalent Level 1 qualification plus Functional Skills English at Level 1. All students need to have a clear DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. The College will apply and pay for this. Applicants will need to supply two satisfactory references. Interview with a specialist tutor.

Interview Process

Interview with a specialist tutor will be arranged on application at a specified time.

How is the course assessed?

The programme is assessed on unit tasks, a portfolio of evidence, a satisfactory work placement with reports showing competence.

Are there any opportunities for progression?

Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (EYE) or an Apprenticeship,Diploma in EYE Workforce. This could lead to a career in private day nurseries, education, health authorities, social services and private homes in Britain, as well as overseas as a nursery assistant, holiday companies and cruise liners.
