The HND Business is a course for individuals seeking to develop applied business knowledge covering a variety of subject areas. This popular course provides you with an extensive overview of practical business skills, which will give you a strong foundation of knowledge, upon which to build a successful career within your chosen organisation or sector. Topics may include Marketing, E-Business, Project Management, Events Management, Human Resource Management, Business Strategy, and Personal Development.
The nature of the course allows you to gain essential business skills in addition to the knowledge, which in turn encourages more creative and innovative business application. The course includes the option of an overseas residential visit.
We strive to embed a range of speakers throughout the course. Our speakers are both internal and external and may include learners services, other teaching departments, speakers from the industries such as finance, law and marketing. We occasionally have previous students come and talk to learners about their experiences and where they are at now. As a College, we also strive to build links with the local community and businesses.
Teaching on the HND Business is provided by a team of qualified staff who are experienced in their respective fields. Teaching staff have been working in a number of business sectors ranging from finance, marketing, law and human resource. All staff endeavour to undertake all relevant training and ensure that their knowledge is continuously updated through training and attendance of key sessions with the relevant awarding body to ensure that they are informed of any changes in national standards.

Sessions are delivered using a varying range of formats and teaching and learning strategies. This includes the use of lectures, seminars, presentations, workshops, in class debates and role play. Learners throughout the course are encouraged to be independent and autonomous consequently there is significant focus and emphasis on independent study, which combined with taught sessions will stand learners in good stead to achieve their potential.
Applicants should possess BTEC National Certificate or BTEC National Diploma in a related subject or two A Level passes or one A Level pass with four GCSE grades A-C or 9-4 including English and Maths or relevant work experience. All applicants will be interviewed, where you will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment. Mature applicants (aged over 21 years) without formal qualifications but with appropriate relevant vocational experience are also welcome to apply. If English is not your first language, you will also need a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or above.
An interview with a specialist tutor is required in order ascertain suitability for the course. You must satisfy vocational tutors at interview of your suitability and potential to succeed.

On completion of the course you have a variety of options. You can choose to undertake an additional top up year in order to attain an Honours Degree, or you can seek employment.
How is the course assessed?
In addition to the varying teaching methods we strive to embed a range of assessment methods to meet the needs of all learners. Some of the assessment methods that are currently used include presentations, written reports, reflective diaries, debates, production of electronic material and leaflets. Candidates will be assessed throughout the course by completing a personal development plan, portfolio, course work, presentation, written reviews, evaluations, self evaluations, case studies and a file of evidence.
Are there any opportunities for progression?
Previous students have gone to study a top up degree at various universities. These include the BA (Hons) in Business Administration and Management at the University of Huddersfield, the BA (Hons) in Business Management at Bradford College and the BA (Hons) in Business at various other UK universities. In addition, some students have undertaken more specialist degree programmes in marketing, project management, finance and events management. Students have also gone on to internships with multi-national companies, entry level management positions, as well as more specialists roles within finance, marketing and human resources departments. The HND in Business is a well-respected and recognised qualification throughout the business sector and as such, can provide a variety of opportunities to HND graduates.
