HND Public Services (UCAS: L4L2)
The Level 5 HND provides greater breadth and specialisation than the Level 4 HNC. HNDs are mode free but are followed predominately by full-time learners. They allow progression into or within employment in the public services sector, either directly on achievement of the award or following further study to degree level.
The Level 5 HND in Public Services provides opportunities for learners to apply their knowledge and practical skills in the workplace. Full-time learners have the opportunity to do this through formal work placements or part-time employment experience. The qualification prepares learners for employment in the public services sector and will be suitable for learners who have already decided that they wish to enter this area of work. Some adult learners may wish to make the commitment required by this qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment in public services or progress into higher education. Other learners may want to extend the specialism that they followed on the Edexcel BTEC Level 4 HNC Programme.
The course is delivered over two days, on site. Learners will study two units per term alongside two units which run over the academic year. Mandatory core units include:
- Managing Public Sector Finance
- Government, Decision Making and Public Services
- Research Project
Learners will also undertake specialist units which are chosen, with a total credit value of 120 credits. These units can include:
- The Global Environment
- Public Service Activity Management
- Aspects of Criminal Law for Public Services
- Criminological Theory Relating to Crimes of Violence.
