ITC Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (QCF)

Employers have to risk assess their workplace first aid requirements and the 3-day First Aid is at Work (FAW) qualification is one of the statutory qualifications for this purpose. FAW training being delivered is approved by ITC.

All candidates must attend the full 18-hours contact time in order to fulfill the qualification 'license to practice' requirement.

As well as full attendance each candidate is continually assessed on each section of the programme.


3-day FAW ProgrammeFirst 6-hours content is EFAW:

On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to: Understand the role of the first aider including reference to: - the importance of preventing cross infection - the need for recording incidents and actions- use of available equipment Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure) Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation CPR Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).

Further 12 hours content for FAW

Provide emergency first aid at work (see above); Administer first aid to a casualty with: - injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries - chest injuries - burns and scalds - eye injuries - sudden poisoning - anaphylactic shock - Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes).


A mixture of theory and practical teaching, delivered in a classroom.

Entry Requirements

None although you will be participating in an active course that involves some kneeling, rolling, laying and touching of others.

Questions & Answers

How is the course assessed?

Skills and knowledge are assessed in each unit. Evidence of meeting each assessment criteria is required. The assessment evidence is generated by practical examination throughout the course by the tutor and by end of unit multiple choice question examinations.

Are there any opportunities for progression?

Level 2 Award in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillation. (QCF) Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF)
