L3 Certificate for Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools

The qualification is suitable for those already working as teaching assistants and learning support staff in schools. It is also suitable for volunteers who are looking to start working in schools. This can be in a supervised or unsupervised role that support pupils’ learning.

The course is for anyone who is working with pupils on an individual basis or with groups under the supervision of a group leader. It is also for people who wish to work in this field

Description

CACHE Level 3 is ideal if you have significant experience as a school support worker and wish to move into a more specialised role.

The qualification is made up of 11 mandatory units. The knowledge and understanding criteria of the qualification will be covered in evening class. The skills criteria are assessed in the work place.

Units for the Certificate include: 

  •  Support learning activities (4 credits) 
  •  Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people (2 credits)
  • Support assessment for learning (4 credits).

Teaching

The course will be delivered one evening a week as a classroom session for a year. There will also be one-to-one tutorials and you will be observed in your work place setting for the practical element of the course.

Katie Walker

Lecturer in Teacher Education.

 I have worked as a lecturer in Teacher Education for seven years as well as having my Primary PGCE. I have a Bsc degree in Environmental Management, a second PGCE in PCET and I also have a Masters in International Development. Within college I have taught on a range of ESOL and teacher education courses. I am currently course leader on the second year PGCE/Cert Ed, Internal Quality Assurance qualification as well as the Assessors qualifications.

Entry Requirements

You will need to be at least 16 years of age to enrol onto this course. It is recommended but not essential that you have a GCSE or equivalent at C grade or above and have basic IT skills. You will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

They will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by CACHE
