Leading Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices Certificate

This qualification is designed to develop a range of skills and knowledge to achieve the evidence requirements for the Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Process and Practice.


The Certificate is intended for those who are part of the internal quality assurance processes and who had a team of internal quality assurance staff. On successfully completing the certificate, you will gain a nationally recognised qualification. It is suitable to anyone who has a role in quality assuring any type of assessment.


Unit 1 will be run as classroom sessions, usually on two Saturdays. Unit 2 will be delivered on a one to one basis in the candidate's workplace as arranged with the course tutor. Unit 3 underpinning theoretical knowledge will be covered on one Saturday and on a one to one basis with the course tutor.

Lecturer in Teacher Education.

 I have worked as a lecturer in Teacher Education for seven years as well as having my Primary PGCE. I have a Bsc degree in Environmental Management, a second PGCE in PCET and I also have a Masters in International Development. Within college I have taught on a range of ESOL and teacher education courses. I am currently course leader on the second year PGCE/Cert Ed, Internal Quality Assurance qualification as well as the Assessors qualifications.

Entry Requirements

This qualification is intended for those who lead a team of internal quality assurance staff. The certificate is suitable for those who have a lead role in ensuring quality assurance practices within an education establishment. If you have already completed the Award in Internal Quality Assurance Level 4, you can do Unit 3 on its own to upgrade your qualification to the full certificate.

What will be studied?

The qualification is now divided into two units as follows: Unit 1 - Understanding the Principles and Practice of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment (theory unit). Unit 2 - Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment (practical unit). Unit 3 - Plan, Allocate and Monitor Work in Own Area of Responsibility (theory and practical unit).

How is the course assessed?

Unit 1 will be assessed by a series of written tasks, along with a recorded discussion. Unit 2 will be assessed through observation and documentary evidence of your quality assuring. Unit 3 will be assessed through recorded discussion and documentary evidence of you leading quality assurance activities. Unit 3 can be studied on its own if you already possess Unit 1 and Unit 2.

Are there any opportunities for progression?

Qualified Internal Quality Assurers may consider studying for a Level 4, 5 or 6 qualification.
