Computerised Accounts (SAGE) level 1


This qualification is an introduction to level one computerised accounting, using the latest version of SAGE software. SAGE is a leading provider of business software solutions worldwide, helping over 6 million customers in 24 countries to work efficiently and successfully.


The programme involves applying manual book-keeping skills to a computerised accounting record system in the various ledgers. It covers:

  • Adding new accounts to sales/purchase/nominal ledgers
  • Processing invoices and credit notes
  • Bank receipts and payments
  • Producing reports

The course leads to a qualification from City and Guilds - the highly respected examination body which is recognised and valued by employers across the world.

This course typically achieves a high success rate - exam results are consistently excellent. Students are therefore able to develop their skills for career progression, increased success in the workplace and enhanced employment opportunities across a range of industries/sectors and in a range of different roles.


The programme is delivered using a workbook which is studied at the learners own pace. The tutor underpins and reinforces this content and provides additional input. Sessions are workshop based, and there is some expectation of practical exercises.

Course Leader profile

Yvonne Bunn

Yvonne Bunn is a highly respected lecturer/trainer and an experienced business woman. She has lectured in Business and Accounting at Calderdale College for the past 20 years, and for the last ten years has delivered training in Sage Line50, Sage Payroll and Manual Bookkeeping for both students and businesses.

She has twenty years experience in running two medium-sized companies, with particular responsibility for the financial management of the enterprises. She currently provides a full accountancy service and tax advice to small and medium-sized businesses.

It is Yvonne’s practical experience in the business world coupled with her teaching expertise which gives her students such a valuable learning experience. Her excellent interpersonal skills enable her to motivate and stimulate students of all ages and abilities. Her thorough planning and preparation make her classes focussed and effective.

Entry Requirements

An interest in the subject area would be a distinct advantage. All students will be interviewed to ascertain that they have a good standard of English, Literacy and Numeracy. Students should also have basic computer literacy.

Questions & Answers

How is the course assessed?

Computerised accounts level one is assessed by an externally set and marked City and Guilds examination. The exam is one hour long and is completed at a computer workstation using SAGE software.

Are there any opportunities for progression?

Successful candidates can progress onto the Computerised Accounts Level 2 and Book Keeping Level 1.
