    NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing

    This course will be of interest to anyone who has already studied Hairdressing and wishes to advance their technical skills and understanding of supervisory management. This course covers the following units/subject areas: Provide hairdressing consultation services, Style and dress long hair, Create a variety of looks using a combination of cutting techniques, Style & dress hair to create a variety of looks, Colour hair using a variety of techniques, Provide colour correction services, Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health and Safety, Promote additional products or services to clients, Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities. The course involves substantial class contact (tutorial support, workshops, learning support) and essential skills (Communication and application of number) which are integrated into all your learning activities. Self directed study is essential to aid the learning process and you will be expected to undertake a minimum of four hours per week. Courses that may be studied alongside this qualification include: IIHHT Indian Head Massage, Assessors Award

    Course Overview

Self directed study is essential to aid the learning process and you will be expected to undertake a minimum of four hours per week. Courses that may be studied alongside this qualification include: IIHHT Indian Head Massage, Assessors Award.
     
    What will I need for the course?
    Students must possess NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing or equivalent and evidence must be provided prior to enrolment. Recruitment is via an admissions interview where you will expected to demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
     
    How will I be assessed?
    Assessment is continuous throughout the course based on: Practical observation, Oral questioning, Written assessment all of which build into a portfolio of evidence. There are no formal examinations for NVQ level 3 in Hairdressing

    NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing awarded by City and Guilds
     
    What can I do on completion of this course?
    The course can lead onto other specialist short courses including: City and Guilds 730 Teachers Certificate, Assessor Award. Career opportunities include Salon Management, Cruise Liners, Product Development and media.

    Teaching
    Teaching methods include lectures, practical activities, projects and assignments, educational visits, external speakers, career events and work placement.
     
    Key Skills
    You may have heard the term Key Skills. At Calderdale College we call these Essential Skills. The Essential Skills qualification covers the two skills of Communication and Application of Number The Wider Essential Skills are Working with Others. You will find Essential Skills integrated into all your learning activities. Developing your Essential Skills will raise your potential in all the subjects of your study. Essential Skills are developed throughout your coursework and tutorial activity. Every 16-18 learner and where possible adult learners will build their portfolio of Essential Skills evidence supported by their course tutors and specialist Essential Skills tutors.
     
    Key Skills
    All students are expected to provide their own personal hairdressing equipment and purchase a red tunic, black shoes and textbooks. Details will be provided at the recruitment stage.
