What will I need for the course?
An introductory course suitable for beginners. School leavers should aim for at least 4 GCSEs at grades E-G. Applicants with no formal qualifications will be considered following an assessment. Applicants will be required to pass an aptitude entry test which is run by the college. Successful completion of the BTEC Introductory Certificate/Diploma in Construction or the Foundation Certificate in Building Craft Occupations will give exemption from this test.
How will I be assessed?
Continuous assessment throughout the course based on: Practical observation, Oral questioning, Portfolio evidence and Written assessment

CSkills Awards Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery (QCF) awarded by CSkills Award - Construction Skills
What can I do on completion of this course?
Progression from this course could be to gain an NVQ level 1 through work based evidence or on to a Level 2 Diploma.

Teaching is delivered in two distinct formats. Workshop tuition supported by a workshop technician and technical lectures incorporating group work, self study and IT.

Every 16-18 learner and where possible adult learners will build their portfolio of Essential Skills evidence supported by their course tutors and specialist Essential Skills tutors.
