G1 - ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
G2 - assist with salon reception duties
BT1 - prepare and maintain the beauty therapy work area
BT2 - assist with facial treatments
BT3 - assist with nail treatments on the hands.
Work experience is an essential requirement.
The course involves substantial class contact which includes tutorial support, workshops, learning support and essential skills. Self study is essential to aid the learning process and you will be expected to undertake a minimum of four hours per week.

Course Overview
This course will be of interest to anyone intending to enter a career in Beauty Therapy. The course is made up of various mandatory units.
What will I need for the course?
An Introductory course suitable for beginners. School leavers should aim for at least 4 GCSEs at grades E-G. Applicants with no formal qualifications will considered following the outcome of a guidance interview. Applicants should have a keen interest and have a basic standard of communication and number skills. All applicants will be interviewed, assessed for dexterity, literacy and numeracy and will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and good communication skills. Applicants must be prepared to work one day per week in industry and two separate block weeks during the course.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is continuous throughout the course by practical observation, oral questioning, written assessment all of which builds into a portfolio of evidence
Will this course lead to a qualification?
NVQ Level 1 awarded by City and Guilds
What can I do on completion of this course?
This course can lead to NVQ 2 Beauty Therapy or NVQ2 Nail Treatments or Level 2 Holistic. Career opportunities include working as an assistant in a Beauty Therapy salon.

Every 16-18 learner and where possible adult learners will build their portfolio of Essential Skills evidence supported by their course tutors and specialist Essential Skills tutors.
Key Skills
All students are required to purchase a kit, salon uniform and shoes details of which will be issued prior to the start of the course. Approximate cost £200.
