The Work Focussed Training Project is for those who are aged 25 and over and who have been claiming Job Seekers Allowance for 6 months or more. Referrals are mainly via JCP advisors but you can self-refer. Please call 01422 399327 and ask to speak to Sally or Valerie for more information.
There are two focuses for the Project and alternate weeks programmes start dates; training is either in the Business or Construction Sector.
The first week of the programme is induction week and runs for 3 days – Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9.30 – 3.00. It includes an initial interview with the training officer to discuss options available through the project, an advice and guidance interview to look at wider options and an initial literacy and numeracy assessment.
Aimed at customers who need basic training and the Health and Safety Certificate to enable them to apply for vacancies on construction sites.
Course covers – Site induction, Safety Signs, Fire Regulations, Manual Handling, Basic First Aid and Working at Heights. These are all basic training and do not lead to a formal qualification.
Health and Safety Test. (CSCS – Construction Skills Certificate Scheme) Health and Safety cards are increasingly needed as evidence of occupational competence by contractors both in the public and private sector. It covers the standard Health and Safety requirements for many occupations within the construction industry.
Learners will be entered for the exam when they have reached the required level of knowledge, usually 2 weeks.

Manual and computerised bookkeeping
Suitable for anyone looking for a qualification as the starting point for a career in bookkeeping and accounts.
Course covers – completing invoices and credit notes, cash and credit transactions, bank reconciliations, petty cash imprest systems and trial balances, ledger and control accounts, understanding capital and revenue expenditure and depreciation.
Sage 50 Accounts 2010 is a fully integrated time-saving software package and business management solutions including payroll and forecasting. These modules are run jointly.
Delivery – Thursday - 9.30 – 4.30
Friday - Practice/self study session
Aimed at those who want to work in an office carrying out routine office duties, such as typing letters, memos, filing, faxing, photocopying, taking and making calls.
Units covered
Unit 201 Supporting the Business Environment
Unit 202 Working Effectively within the Business Environment.
Delivery Monday and Thursday 9.30 – 4.30
This course can be taken in individual units.
You must evidence at least 4.5 hours study per day, maximum 3 days per week to be able to claim travel expenses, which are paid on Thursday and Friday via Sally Goodier in PMB 06. Maximum duration that travel expenses will be paid is 7 weeks
It is recommended that you take an hour off for lunch/breaks.
Level 1 Units include Word Processing/Operating a Computer, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint and Web Design
Level 2 Units Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, PowerPoint
Level 3 Units Word Processing, Spreadsheets.
There are no formal entry requirements, however your Literacy must be at least L1. The results of the BKSB will determine thisStudents are assessed through 1 scenario-based assignment and 2 tasks

Study Details
You will be working through learning packages which allow you to work at your own pace, with individual support and monitoring from staff when required. Work units are assessed, from the evidence presented, by your assessor in line with unit requirement.
