A group of learners studying for the City and Guilds Certificate in Adult Literacy at Calderdale College are celebrating having completed The Reading Agency’s Six Book Challenge. The Six Book Challenge is a national scheme is for less confident adult readers and invites them to read six books, recording their reading in a diary.

Geraldine Jones of the Central Library, Halifax, visited the College to present prizes and certificates. Almost 9000 adults across the UK took part in last year’s Challenge through libraries, colleges, adult and community education, prisons and workplaces.
 

The completion of the Challenge is a fantastic achievement for the five students who joined the Adult Literacy course to improve their confidence and skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. In addition to the certificates, the learners were presented with surprise gifts of £10 vouchers. As the learners completed the Challenge before 30th June, they have also been entered into the national prize draw.

The five learners rewarded for their success were: Theresa Holyroyd, Miranda Blackburn, Leanne Maher, David Foulger and Julie Beverley.
