“This is a wonderful chance for those thinking of a career in design or the arts to see how much they can achieve at Calderdale College”, said Carol South, Programme Manager for the arts. “Thanks to our partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University, we now offer some subjects all the way through to degree level including graphic design, performing arts and visual arts which is based at Todmorden Community College. Much of the work on display reflects our increasing links with people in the creative industries who give lectures, workshops and live briefs to encourage our students in the development of business and enterprise skills”.

Emma Hodgson, 22 (pictured), is completing her second year of a National Diploma in Art and Design. Her dress assemblage has been inspired by artists from the 60’s and designer Dolce and Gabbana who featured painted dresses on their catwalk last year. “I’ve combined that idea with the repeated patterns that you find in 1960’s clothing”, explained Emma, who is progressing to a HND in 3D Interior and a Jewellery qualification at Calderdale College in September. “My aim is to work in fashion textiles”, she added.

Entitled ‘A Typical British Summer’, the show is free and open Friday 27 June 10am – 4pm, Saturday 28 June 10am - 12pm, Monday 30 June to Friday 4 July 10am - 4pm, Saturday 5 July 10am - 12pm and Monday 7 July to Friday 11 July 10am - 4pm.
