Battle of the Bands 201119th October 2011
Music fans were entertained by a variety of new young talented bands at the annual Battle of the Bands competition last night.
The four bands making the final were:
• The Oreoh!s
• Social Therapy
• Wasted at Midnight
While the judges deliberated the audience was also entertained by two local Right to Record bands The Rise and Man or Mouse.
After much discussion from the judges about musical style, influence, technical skill, band interaction, audience enjoyment and overall band ability there was still a tied vote! So after more deliberation it was decided that out of fairness to the bands there would be joint winners who are:
MetroGnomes comprising of singer Tobias Stephenson, Guitarist Danny Brow, Bassist Alex Barrett and Drummer Harry Sampson. They formed in December 2010, originally doing covers of artists such as Arctic Monkeys, U2, Kings of Leon, Oasis and many more. In recent months the boys have penned their own songs and released an E.P entitled “The Truth Of Our Youth.”
The Oreoh!s consists of sisters, Sid & Esme from Manchester and Henry, born and bred in Halifax. Their sound is like a West Coast Indie band with a 60's jingly guitar sound and melodic harmonies.
Same Hair was their first recorded E.P involving two of their own songs, Careless and Everytime. Their influences include The Smiths, Best Coast, Yuck, The Ramones, The Coral, The Strokes, The Crookes, Pixies and Tribes.
Both bands will share the first prize and each get a day’s recording at Calderdale College’s recording studio, a gig at the Doghouse and a cash prize. Calderdale College has a specially equipped recording studio equipped to industry standard which is available for booking and community use contact 01422 399 399 for more information.
