Abigail learnt about the public service role of the Mayor, the organisation of the Mayoral diary and his skills and experiences learnt in the job: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time shadowing the Mayor, I learnt about the Mayor's varied and busy public role and it has aided my confidence when interacting with new people for the first time.“
In a conversation with Abigail, the Mayor highlighted that he has visited around 330 places whilst he has been the Mayor, ranging from attending church meetings to opening new buildings & school gardens.
Abigail provides administration and customer service support to the External Funding unit at the College whilst studying for her NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration and Customer Service. She describes her reasons for undertaking an Apprenticeship and what she has learnt so far: “It is really hard to find a job at the moment, so I decided to apply for an Apprenticeship which has enabled me to gain both a qualification and the experience needed to find work in the future.
“My Apprenticeship has helped me develop a good work ethic, improved my confidence and skills and given me the opportunity to be involved with World Skills, the Skills Show and I am the lead ‘Have a go’ contact for Marketing in the External Funding team. I know I will be confident in the future when applying for job roles now that I have some relevant experience and good references,“ continued Abigail.
