New links between Calderdale College and the Carnegie Faculty of Sport and Education at Leeds Metropolitan University are set to benefit local students.

A new Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching & Performance Management, validated by Leeds Met, begins at Calderdale College this week. Aimed at people already working in the industry or at students aged 18 years or over with a Level 3 National Diploma in Sport or A-levels, the two-year work-related qualification can be topped up to a full BA in Sports at Carnegie.

As part of the growing links between the two organisations, around 80 students from Calderdale College’s three sports academies: men and women’s football and rugby league, kicked off the new term with a full tour and coaching sessions at Carnegie which is ranked in the top three for sports training in the UK.

“This has been a special opportunity for these students to benefit from our resources and elite team of coaches before our academic term begins”, said Ian Smyth of the Carnegie Faculty of Sport at Leeds Met. “We’re delighted to be able to make them available to students from Calderdale College’s sports academies”.

Damien Kilkenny, programme manager for Sport at Calderdale College said “Carnegie has a huge reputation for sports excellence and we’re pleased to be able to tap into that and make it available closer to home.”
