Calderdale College Form New Partnership With FC Halifax Town29th November 2014
Calderdale College are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with FC Halifax Town that will increase the opportunities for the Shaymen’s youth team players who follow the club’s Football and Education Scholarship.
The bespoke programme for those players selected by FC Halifax Town is delivered on site at Calderdale College. Students will work towards a BTEC Sport qualification and can look forward to an excellent development programme dedicated to encouraging talented young footballers to maximise their potential both on the field and on a pathway towards a chosen career.
The programme at FC Halifax Town is designed to give young players an opportunity to fulfil their potential. The club will target in particular those who have just fallen short of receiving professional contracts with League clubs and give them the opportunity to prove they are ‘late developers’ with the ability to still make the grade.
Steve Nichol, Head of Community, Junior and Youth Football Development at FC Halifax Town said: “We have developed an educational pathway delivered by the experienced, skilled and dedicated teaching staff at Calderdale College to help our players gain the necessary qualifications to build a career away from football.
“We pride ourselves on the fact that FC Halifax Town operate in a professional environment with excellent facilities and highly qualified staff dedicated to giving the scholars every chance to succeed. We now have access to the best sporting facilities in the Halifax area and a purpose-built classroom within the Inspire Centre at the College. We have also overhauled our coaching structure appointing two new technical/tactical coaches, a strength and conditioning coach, a physiotherapist and a sports tutor to deliver the programme.
FC Halifax Town Chairman, David Bosomworth, said: “I’m really excited by the partnership; our focus is very much on discovering and developing young players – offering a structured opportunity to build a career within football whilst enhancing educational qualifications at the same time. I am sure the model we have put into place with Calderdale College will very quickly go from strength to strength.”
Grant Soames, Inspire Centre Manager at the College said: "We are excited to be working in partnerships with FC Halifax Town to provide the education element of the scholarship programme. The players will have access to the new state-of-the-art Inspire Centre, which will provide FC Halifax Town with the best possible facilities to nurture the young talent. We aim to grow the partnership over the coming years by offering Higher Education courses and Apprenticeship roles alongside the BTEC Sport qualification. We also have our very own Football Development Centre, this is aimed at students who are aspiring to develop their skills and attributes alongside their academic studies, which will also give them the opportunity to mirror and train alongside FC Halifax Town."
