Calderdale College’s Rugby League Academy has topped an excellent season by winning the Yorkshire Division One of the Colleges Competition yesterday in a decisive game against Wilberforce College from Hull. Calderdale College won by 32 points to four.

This is the third year of the College’s Rugby League Academy and their most successful to date. They won a place in the final of the Yorkshire Carnegie Champion Colleges Cup in February where they were beaten by St Wilfrid’s (Featherstone) by just two points in a closely fought game.

This took them to a place in the national Carnegie Champion Colleges competition where they were placed third in the country.

“The game against Wilberforce was tough but we won comfortably”, said Damian Gibson, Calderdale College Rugby League Academy coach. “The boys gave us their best team performance in what’s already been a very successful year and everyone played well. The lads have been playing their hearts out this season. They’ve done really well and we’re proud of them”.
