Calderdale College student represents Great Britain

24th November 2011 Calderdale College student represents Great Britain

Calderdale College Student Robert Veitch is representing Great Britain in the Junior Sabre Fencing Squad in Poland this month.

Following on from a successful tournament representing Scotland in the Senior Fencing team for the 5 nations competition earlier this month Rob is representing the under 20 GB squad in Sosnowiec in Poland. He is one of only 9 fencers chosen to represent GB in the junior men’s sabre at the competition. The sabre is one of the three disciplines in fencing and rules for the sabre allow that contact can be made above the waist with any part of the blade.

At the 5 nations competition earlier this month Rob represented Scotland (he is half Scottish on his Father’s side) in the Senior Men’s Sabre team and the team came second in the competition. This competition will assist Rob in getting ranking points and his aim is to representing Scotland in the under 20 commonwealth games in February and team GB in the 2012 Olympics.

Next up for Rob is representing GB in December at an A Grade international Competition in Germany.

Rob and other members of the Halifax Fencing Club currently use the new facilities at the Inspire Centre to train. If you are interested in getting involved in fencing contact the local team at halifaxfencing@hotmail.co.uk
