Calderdale College Wins National Barbering Award28th May 2013
Calderdale College has won ‘College of the Year’ at the British Barbers Association (BBA) Awards, which was held during the Barber Connect exhibition at St David's Hotel in Cardiff.
Barbers from across the UK descended on the annual exhibition to hear from inspirational speakers, watch demonstrations and learn about new products and services as well as go head to head in the annual industry awards. The British Barbers’ Association is dedicated to raising industry standards, celebrating talent and celebrating talent and supporting the professional and commercial development of barbers, men’s hairdressers and male grooming salons.
The Student Barber of the Year competition was split into three categories - Classic, Trends and Styling, showcasing the versatility of the rising stars of British barbering. Ten barbers were shortlisted for each Category and three were our very own Level 2 Barbering students - Kay Butler, Eddie Nas and Assad Mahmood. All were finalists in the Classic competition.
Sponsors of the event included Denman International, Pro Edge Comb, Jack Dean and Andis. Celebrity barber and BBA's Style Director, Chris Foster and BBA Director Mike Taylor hosted the proceedings.
Daniel Geraghty, Barbering Lecturer at Calderdale College said: “It is such an amazing achievement for the College to win ‘College of the Year’ and for three of our students to get down to the last ten finalists in the national barbering competition. I am really proud of my students and pleased for the College and these awards recognise the talent the College and Calderdale have to offer.”
Chris Foster, Style Director of the British Barbers Association said: "I'm thrilled to be involved with the brand new BBA Masters 2013 competition. Being creative is a big part of our industry and competitions are essential for barbers to hone their skills. The BBA Masters competition is the perfect platform to show exactly how talented you are, a master of your craft."
