Calderdale’s First Cricket Centre of Excellence Launched at Calderdale College

18th July 2014 Calderdale’s First Cricket Centre of Excellence Launched at Calderdale College

From September, Calderdale College will be Calderdale’s first Educational institute to have a Cricket Centre of Excellence. The launch of the Centre of Excellence follows the success of two similar programmes run by the Sport Development Centres at the College in football and rugby.

The College is looking to recruit between 20-24 players who will be able to study any course they choose and have the flexibility to attend professional training and matches, making it the perfect combination for any keen sportsperson.

The initiative has been set up with Pro Coach Yorkshire Cricket, the official coaching provider for Yorkshire County Cricket Club, and will allow students at Calderdale College to receive professional coaching based at the new state-of-the-art sports facility at the College and Copley Cricket Club. Pro Coach Yorkshire will offer support to deliver and drive the Cricket initiative at the College. Students at the College will be able to utilise the extensive network and links in the community to help them progress professionally.

Andrew Gale, Captain of Yorkshire County Cricket Club said: "It's fantastic to see Pro Coach Yorkshire Cricket partnering alongside Calderdale College to provide their students with high quality cricket coaching. Having lived very close to the Calderdale area I know there is a real passion for cricket, coupled with the excellent facilities at the College I'm sure that this project will be a huge success."

Chris Jones, Principal at Calderdale College said: “We are delighted to announce a new partnership with Pro Coach Yorkshire and the team at Headingly. The new Cricket Centre of Excellence will offer students a rare opportunity to pursue the dream of training like a professional cricketer, with first class coaching whilst continuing with their studies at the College. I hope the cricketers in the area will take full advantage of this opportunity and I am looking forward to seeing local junior cricketers progress through the Cricket Centre of Excellence.

The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation undertakes a lot of fantastic work in the community and the College is looking forward to extending that into the Calderdale region.
