This Wednesday sees the Rugby Academy play what is hoped to be the first of a series of matches in a bid to win the Carnegie Champion Colleges Cup. The Calderdale College team will face rivals Pontefract New College in the Yorkshire region semi final and if successful will go on to battle it out for a place in the final with the winners of the St Wilfred’s and Wilberforce College game. The ultimate match of the region will be held at Castleford Lock Lane, 11th February. The winners of the Yorkshire division will go on to play the victors from Lancashire with the aim of becoming the Carnegie Colleges Cup National Champions.

The Calderdale College Rugby Academy also has the advantage of being coached by international rugby player Damian Gibson, who commented: “The lads have performed exceptionally well this year and are currently sitting in 1st place of the Yorkshire 1 division SRL Competition but we are not complacent there is still plenty of work to do.”

With last years Yorkshire division winners (Greenhead College) out of the competition and the Calderdale College team being on top form the odds are certainly looking good. If anyone would like to support the team the match is at Abbey Road fields, Wednesday 4th February, kick off at 2pm.
