Children in Need 2009

25th November 2009 Children in Need 2009

The cheers are still ringing in the ears of the bed push team from North Halifax Skills Centre who after a gruelling three hours pushing a hospital bed from North Halifax Skills Centre, Ovenden to Calderdale College via Dean Clough and Halifax town centre raised almost £900. The team were strongly supported along the way and even the Security team at Dean Clough were very generous and allowed the students into the NHS offices to collect donations. They were joined at George Square by Chris Jones, Principal who helped with the up hill push from Halifax town centre to the College. The team finally went on to Eureka to join other invited fundraisers for the live BBC link up. Andy Jowett, Brickwork Tutor and fellow bed pusher said "It was a tremendous effort by students and staff, although it was damaging to their street cred the students really enjoyed taking part."

Not to be out done the Hairdressing team at North Halifax Skills centre raised over £350 by holding a bric-a-brac stall, tombola, bun stall, washing cars and the kidnap of Linda Fatherley (they're still waiting for the ransom to be paid!). The sponsored walk by Rick O'Shea (Brickwork tutor) and his students raised over £150.

The money is still rolling in across the College, The young man dressed as a girl raised £205.74, Sahra Hargreaves of the Learner Involvement team raised £30 by baking and selling buns, E floor raised £18 by selling mince pies and Music students raised £45 by playing in the One Centre.

All will agree that Calderdale College truly entered into the spirit of Children in Need 2009 and helped West Yorkshire top a poll by raising the most money by a county outside of London.
