Dance Students Work with Choreographer Douglas Thorpe23rd April 2013
Students at Calderdale College have been working with internationally renowned Choreographer Douglas Thorpe on their curtain-raiser performance that will be showcased on the first night of Douglas’ eagerly awaited regional tour of his new dance theatre piece with Mad Dogs Theatre, ‘Dogs Land’.
Douglas was raised in Harehills, Leeds and went on to perform with leading dance companies such as RJC Dance and Phoenix Dance Theatre. His works have been enjoyed throughout the UK and Europe which has led him to be a leading figure within dance.
Nurturing the next generation of dancers and dance makers has been a particular passion of his and he has expressed his high regard for the students’ ability at the College: “Their commitment, energy and level of skills is both exciting and shows a great deal of potential. Yorkshire is a lucky place to have so many gifted students choosing to study dance.”
Douglas and students at the College will be performing on Thursday 25th April at the Square Chapel Centre for the Arts in Halifax at 8pm.
Dogs Land is a hard-hitting dance theatre story about two conflicted couples who slowly tangle themselves up in a web of deceit and delusion. Time and space blur as each tragic individual reaches out tenderly for something that feels real. Jealous anger explodes, driving the story to a full throttle dramatic climax as relationships are pushed to the limit. Agonising rejection wounds the soft hearted in a bitter-sweet conclusion.
