Festival of Cultures17th May 2015
Calderdale College are hosting the Festival of Cultures at the Inspire Centre on Wednesday 3rd June between 1pm-3pm which is open to everyone to celebrate the different cultures in the local community and across the College. There will be live music, free food and drinks, information stands and activities including face painting, dancing, games and crafts.
There will be a wide range of activities on the day including belly dancing, Rangoli - Indian floor art, Bhangra dancing, Yoga, Irish fiddle music, flag competition, totem pole carving, African clothing display, face painting and a resident pianist. ESOL students at the College have organised Mendhi, Arabic calligraphy and a clothes display. Professional Cookery students will be preparing food from around the world and English Functional Skills students will be displaying personal prose. Parkinson Lane Primary School have organised a dance troop, choir and an artwork display, the Arch-Way Project have organised South Asian music and activities and EAST staff and students have created interactive map activities.
Laura Lavender, Employability & Life Skills Lecturer at the College who has organised the event with the help of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, teaching staff and students, said: “It is the perfect opportunity to get involved and show a united front in celebrating the cultures of all students, staff and the local community. This festival is all about bringing the whole community together to celebrate the cultural diversity that enriches Calderdale. It's about learning about others and enjoying trying out things you've never tried before.”
Saville Park Primary School, The Halifax Central Initiative, The Interfaith Council, Past Times Dementia Club, St Augustine’s Language Café and of course our very own students and staff will be attending.
