Calderdale College’s U19’s Rugby team will be the first team to play in a competitive rugby match at the new Gozo Stadium in Malta. The Gozitan team will field their open age side against the College’s U19s.
Gozo RL secretary Eman Borg commented “We’ve been training at the Gozo Stadium for many months since the MRL Championship last season and it will be a pleasure to bring an official fixture to the venue for the first time on February the 15th”
The match is part of a visit by the team to Malta organised by the Rugby League Development Centre Coach Lee Greenwood and will be a warm-up match for their fixture against Malta U20?s later that week.
The overseas trip is the first of what will become an annual tour for the Development Centre and it gives the team an opportunity to play against foreign opposition and in a different environment. 15 members of the rugby team will be taking part in the trip including students from a wide variety of courses and apprenticeships including sport, public services, construction and health and social care.
The Rugby League Development Centre provides students with the chance to combine Rugby League with academic studies see the sports section of the College’s website for more details
