Former Calderdale College performing arts student Philip Hill-Pearson has begun filming scenes for Steven Spielberg’s new film War Horse, which is set in the trenches of the First World War.   Philip plays a young British soldier in Spielberg’s adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s best-selling novel, which tells the story of Joey, a young farm horse who is sold to the army in 1914 . The incredibly moving tale has captivated audiences young and old as a children’s novel and an award-winning West End production.

Neil Horsfield, Philips former tutor in performing arts commented ‘Phil was an exceptional student while studying at Calderdale and played an outstanding Puck, the mischievous elf in Midsummer’s Night Dream.’


The film is set to hit the big screen at the end of next year. The cast includes Emily Watson, David Thewlis and Benedict Cumberbatch.
