Full House for Grimm Tales

15th December 2008

Many of us will recognise fairy tales such as Rapunzel, Snow White and the Elves and the Shoemaker whether we read them as children or have read them to our own children. The Performing Arts students reprised many of the stories in an enchanting performance directed by Andrea Quantrill

Many of us will recognise fairy tales such as Rapunzel, Snow White and the Elves and the Shoemaker whether we read them as children or have read them to our own children. The Performing Arts students reprised many of the stories in an enchanting performance directed by Andrea Quantrill

The production included eight adaptations of the acclaimed stories by the brothers Grimm: Aschenputtel (the original Cinderella); Hansel and Gretel; Iron Hands; The Mouse, the Bird and the Sausage; The Table, the Donkey and the Cudgel in the Sack; Lion Prince; and A Riddling Tale. The production was set in traverse and classed as an ensemble piece whereby the students not only re-enacted the stories but were also responsible for the creation and production of the set, props and stage production.

Both first and second year students had four weeks to put the sell out show together which included a variety of techniques from mime to physical theatre. The success of the show demonstrates the students skills and ability receiving praise from tutors and critical acclaim from the Halifax Evening Courier.
