Go-Kart Challenge on Jubilee Day31st May 2012
Calderdale College Construction students have taken part in a race with go-karts they built from scratch at the College‘s Jubilee Celebration.
The Schools Link students who are taking construction courses at the College were hands on through the entire process learning how to design, create and customise the karts. The students built the karts to meet the requirements for many of their course units, and also helped build on their theoretical knowledge, as well as improving their team work and communication skills.
On race day the students worked in pairs to race their karts in a series of races with the winners progressing through to the semi finals and final of the competition. The races were lots of fun not only for the students but also for the family and friends cheering on the teams. The overall winner of the Go-Kart challenge was Bob/Harry Baldwin & Stuart.
The races were started by the Mayor of Halifax, who also judged the ‘Best in Show’ category which was won by Nathan Heywood for his black and yellow kart with aerodynamic side panels. The Mayor commented how difficult it was to judge an overall winner of the competition due to the high level of all the entries. ?
