There was a chance to celebrate success and catch up with old friends for Life Skills Learners at their certificate presentation event at Calderdale College.

Former students returned to join those still studying at the College as they picked up awards for Life Skills and Employability courses completed earlier this year. Certificates were awarded to Entry Level 1, 2 and 3 learners who had achieved qualifications in Personal Progress, Personal and Social Development and Employability.

The learners undertook a variety of activities to achieve their certificates, from running the D café, a Book Club and Trolley Shop to taking part in healthy lifestyle activities and local environmental projects.

Having left the staff team last year, former tutor Val Foster was delighted to return to the College to present certificates to the learners, and to wish her former colleague Mavis Buckley good luck in her retirement. The evening marked an emotional end to a 10 year long career at the College for Mavis.

“It was fantastic to see so many of our learners, who have moved on or who have progressed at College, enjoying the celebrations together”, said Life Skills tutor Gwen Goodall. “It was great to talk to parents, carers and friends and to find out how our former students are now doing”.
