Make the most of your SU21st October 2011
Around 80 student course representatives, from a variety of subject areas, gathered together yesterday for a team building and training session before casting their votes for the 2011/12 Executive Committee.
Outgoing SU President Craig Henry described the role of the Student Union and commitment required of the executive to make the best SU possible. He also recommended that those elected worked with the views of students at the heart of all they did and how proud he was to have represented Calderdale College’s students over the last 12 months.
Five potential candidates outlined what they would do as SU president if elected:
Adam Greenhough – stood on a platform of equality, diversity and with the intention of developing Fairtrade at the College
Chloe Carter – aimed to help others to succeed at the College and develop the College into a more interesting and exciting place to study
Emma Wright – Aimed to build on the previous successes of the SU and get all students involved in the union
Tom Winspear – wanted to improve the environment for all learners and get more links between the SU and business
Wesley O’ Neil – was aiming to improve communication between all learners and develop the social aspect of the SU
The course representatives voted and elected Emma Wright as the new SU president. Emma is now keen to build links between the SU and those it represents not just on the main campus but also at North Halifax Skills Centre and Todmorden.
Emma commented “We want all students to become involved in the SU to make Calderdale College SU the best in the country.” She added that students could come down to Learner Involvement Office, in the One Centre, at any time to meet with SU reps and get involved in SU activities.
