Mayoral Visit to North Halifax Skills Centre12th December 2011
The Mayor of Calderdale Councillor Dr Nader Fekri JP visited the North Halifax Skills Centre on Thursday 8th December 2011. The North Halifax Skills Centre is part of Calderdale College and delivers high quality vocational training, through the Construction and Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Academies.
The visit follows on from a College enrichment visit to the Town Hall where the Mayor expressed an interest in looking around the Centre and seeing the students learning new skills.
Whilst at the North Halifax Skills Centre the Mayor had a tour of the facilities and an opportunity to try his hand at the construction trades being taught at the Centre. The Mayor also presented awards to the Student Learner of the Year, Most Improved Learner and Certificates for 100% attendance.
British Gypsum Plastering Student of theYear, has been awarded to Mark Ettenfield who has achieved consistently high marks in theory and practical units along with distinctions at Levels 1 and 2. He also works as an apprentice and has achieved the often difficult task of balancing work and college commitments. Mark is an excellent student and role model to his peer group.
Also recognised are 2nd place plasterer of the year Grant Bielby and 3rd place plasterer of the year James Jones. The award for most improved learner is Chris McInnes who has been an exceptional learner.
Ashley Smith received an award for attendance. He has achieved 100% attendance during his course at NHSC and has never had a late arrival. Ashley has a drive and determination to complete his course which will help him achieve in his working career.
Plastering Lecturer Lance Lucas commented “We are really pleased to have the Mayor present our learners with their awards. All the students have worked incredibly hard over the past year and it is wonderful for others to come to North Halifax Skills Centre to see their achievements.”
