BTEC First Diploma in Business students were treated to a special workshop today organised and developed by West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service. This financial literacy programme is designed for young people with the aim of educating them about financial knowledge. As a young person, there are a lot of things to think about in terms of long term finance, whether it is a major decision such as going to university or moving into new home never mind the everyday budgeting issues.

This fun and interactive programme, supported by Barclays, is delivered in a friendly, light hearted environment by young people to reinforce the message that although finance is not everybody’s cup of tea it can not be ignored so the sooner you understand it the better you are in the long run.

The Money Skills course covers a variety of topics from tackling financial jargon, understanding bank statements, loans, money lenders and credit reports. Apart from a wealth of new knowledge the scheme encourages communication, team working and leadership which is a further benefit to those that take part.

Furkan Uddin, one of the business tutors, organised the visit: “The training was very successful and beneficial to the students. The students have developed a deeper understanding of money skills which was presented in fun learning environment”
