National Hairdressing Success for Calderdale College Students22nd March 2012
Calderdale College have competed in the National Hairdressing Federation’s Blackpool International Hairdressing Championships at the Wintergardens in Blackpool on the 11th and 12th March.
The competition pits hairdressing trainees against each other in a number of categories. Calderdale College entered students from the North Halifax Skills Centre site in both hairdressing and barbering categories and they were successful in both.
Charlene Robinson entered both the Junior Men’s Cut and Blow to produce a modern cut and blow dry and the Junior Men’s Street Scene competition to produce a freestyle to reflect a modern look. Charlene successfully won the Men’s Cut and Blow and took 2nd prize in the Junior Men’s Street Scene. She was awarded a diploma and trophy for her victory!
Camilla Gough and Jess Normanton worked together to enter the Goldwell College Team Award where they had to create two different looks in only 30 minutes. Great team work meant they not only created both a blow dry and evening style on their models but they ensured the models were dressed appropriately for their style and had complementary make-up. The models posed for the judges and the Calderdale College’s team were awarded third place.
Also successful at the competition was Shannon Saville who entered the Night at the Opera category where she created a glamorous evening look for the red carpet. Shannon produced a hairstyle including hair ornaments as well as creating the full red carpet look on her model in only 30 minutes. She was awarded 4th place for her evening style.
Hairdressing Tutor Emma Brookes commented “All students worked really hard prior to and at the competitions. Their hard work paid off!”
Calderdale College runs Hairdressing and Barbering courses at both the main site on Francis Street and at the North Halifax Skills Centre.
