Calderdale College National Diploma Performing Arts students were invited to Parkinson Lane Primary School by head teacher Mr Gugsy Ahmed to deliver a series of performances over a four week period. The three topics suggested by the school for the students to perform, were Traditional Children's Stories, The Great Fire of London and The Holocaust. The performances were created by the students and all organisational decisions and actions arranged by themselves.

Several hundred children attended each of the interactive events which were performed in school assemblies. The children also shared their lunchtime with the visiting students enabling them to build relationships and learn about Performing Arts.

Calderdale College Performing Arts Lecturer Andrea Quantrill said: “We are thrilled at the success of this project, both creatively and in terms of true community links which we now share with our uniquely vibrant local school. This is a project that we hope to continue for years to come. The only drawback was that our regular Tuesday morning visits had to end, and it was with emotion and a sense of real achievement that we said our goodbyes”.

Mr Ahmed said, “The students were really good ambassadors for the college, it was a real pleasure to have them in school. They were great role models and the quality of their work was excellent. We have always had good links with the college but this project took the relationship to another dimension”.
