Quad Launch

21st July 2009 Quad Launch

The Quad area at Calderdale College was unveiled this week after its regeneration at the hands of Calderdale College’s Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award students. The budding learners are all currently studying either NVQ level 2 or level 3 Public Services at the College. Before the students worked their magic, the area was overgrown and run down with the biggest surprise of the clean up being the discovery a duck and her 13 ducklings.

The Duke of Edinburgh award is split into 4 different sub categories with one of them being volunteering, the other three parts of the award are physical, skills and expedition, all of these aspects must be covered to receive the award. The clean up of the Quad area will make up this section of the award. The Quad was officially opened by Frank Watene who plays for Halifax RLFC and a former student of Calderdale College.

Dave Kitson the organiser of the event said “The Duke of Edinburgh students all learnt valuable team and independent work skills, but more importantly the project was aimed to improve both the College and the wider community”. Overall the project involved six students and it took them several consecutive Wednesdays to complete the clean up.
