School council members visit Calderdale College

A group of three school council members from Halifax High School enjoyed a tour of Calderdale College, guided by College Student Union members Emma Wright and Michael Mandunya.

Amna Tahir, Bilal Ahmed and Amy Richards met with Principal Chris Jones and interviewed him on a number of subjects including; provision and most popular courses at College, what learners go on to do after College and benefits of the College to the community. They also spoke with Peter Farrell, Head of Quality Improvement, about the College’s new build and facilities.

The following week, Amna, Bilal and Amy joined other pupils from six local school councils at their monthly Interschool Parliament meeting at Parkinson Lane Primary School. A number of topics were discussed during the meeting, including the facilities that the College’s new build will offer, such as the new sports hall and pitches. Amna, Bilal and Amy presented a slideshow of their College visit and the students were also able to question Emma Wright and two members of College staff on subjects including the running of the Student Union and the advice and guidance available at the College.
