Students Shine at Hair and Beauty Awards20th July 2011
The Hair and Beauty Department of Calderdale College celebrated the achievement of its students on Level 1, 2 & 3 Hair & Beauty Courses with an awards ceremony at the Shay on Thursday 7th July 2011. It was the college’s opportunity to recognise those students who had excelled on their courses.
The event focussed on the theme of ‘Reach for the Stars’ reflecting the progress of the students throughout their courses. It was evident from the hair styles, glamorous outfits, immaculate make up and elaborate nail-art that this celebration was all about style.
A succession of individual learners stepped on stage to receive their awards from their course tutors. The students were congratulated for their achievements after a year of hard work. ‘Student of the Year’ awards were given to students for their commitment and determination in completing qualifications and for displaying particular skills and enthusiasm during their chosen course.
As part of the event the work of ‘Learners who Inspire’ was showcased including the work of Natalie Lees who produced an Alice in Wonderland inspired look as part of her successful portfolio of work at a recent Hairdressing and beauty competition.
The awards were sponsored by the Ministry of Hair and Beauty in Halifax with a special award sponsored by the Yorkshire Region of the National Hair Federation was presented to Steve Quinn, a NVQ Level 2 Barbering student, by Chairperson Christine Hinchcliffe.
Winner of the special award and the Student of the Year for ‘Level 2 Barbering’, Steve Quinn, said ‘I had been wanting to learn hair for a while and the course has got me on the right track for where I want to go. Its great at Calderdale College there are some good tutors.’
