Students Sign Their Way to Success16th December 2013
Over the past couple of months, three of the College’s hearing impaired students have been visiting Voluntary Action and giving regular British Sign Language lessons to support workers from the Choice Project in Halifax.
ESOL student, Jama Balleh, Music student, Adeel Shabir and former Level 2 ICT student Jake Lamb have all been very enthusiastic about delivering the lessons and excited to share their knowledge.
Now just a few weeks into the lessons, both the support workers and the students feel they have gained a lot from the lessons and Project Choice has already asked for more. The lessons have been a great opportunity for the students as it has given them the opportunity to gain some work experience as well as helping them to build on their confidence and English skills.
Tamzin Wilson a support worker who is learning from our students said: “The boys are fantastic and are a credit to the College. We have learnt so much in such a short space of time, we could not have had better teachers.”
