Successful former student returns to inspire current sports students27th March 2015
As part of Industry Week sports students received a special visit from former Calderdale college student, Ben Hardaker who now works as a FA Skills Coach.
During his time at the college Ben studied Level 3 Sports Science and a Foundation Degree at Calderdale College and continued his Degree at Leeds Beckett University.
Craig Robinson, Sports Tutor said: “It’s great for Ben to come in, because it gives an example of where you can get by studying at the college, he’s a good role model for them and shows these guys a path they can go down.”
Bethany Sutcliffe, Level 3 Sport, coaching development and fitness student said: “The course covers a wide area of sport, it’s quite interesting. You do coaching and fitness, anatomy and physiology and those are my favourite subjects. Ben is showing us how to coach successfully, seeing him do well is quite inspirational.”
Ben Hardaker said: “It’s good to come back and hopefully I’ll inspire some of the sports learners to get into coaching. I’ve delivered a session around coaching young children, half the students pretended to be 10 year olds and the rest of the learners had to watch and feedback on how I communicated with the players etc. I’m just trying to get them to realise that there is much more to coaching than just setting up cones and getting out a football, it’s a learning process.”
