Studying the HNC Business at Calderdale College will provide you with access to high quality teaching professionals, who are business subject specialists, technology to enhance your studies, and a multitude of resources, within a vibrant learning environment.

A mixture of business skills and knowledge is a crucial factor when considering future employability and/or career progression. A sound knowledge of the business discipline can be a desirable and highly marketable attribute in an increasingly competitive World.

Modules may include Marketing, E-Business, Events Management, and Business Strategy, to name but a few. The student-centred nature of the course may also facilitate modules being developed to meet the group’s specific subject preferences.

This recognised and highly respected qualification can lead to improved employment prospects in variety of business roles, as well as the option of additional study in order to progress towards a full honours degree.

This qualification is available to part time learners only. There is an expectation of a minimum of six hours private study per week.

We strive to embed a range of speakers throughout the course. Our speakers are both internal and external and may include learner services, other teaching departments and speakers from the industries such as Finance, Law and Marketing.

We occasionally include previous students to come and talk to current learners about their own experiences and where they are at now. As a College, we also strive to build links with the local community and businesses.

Teaching

Sessions are delivered using a varying range of formats and teaching and learning strategies. This includes the use of lectures, seminars, presentations, workshops, in class discussions, debates and role play.

Learners throughout the course are encouraged to be independent and autonomous, consequently there is a significant focus and emphasis on independent study, which combined with taught sessions will stand learners in good stead to achieve their potential.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

Applicants should possess BTEC National Certificate, BTEC National Diploma in a related subject or two A Level passes or one A Level pass with four GCSE grades A-C /9-4 including English and Maths or relevant work experience.

All applicants will be interviewed, where you will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment.

Mature applicants (aged over 21 years) without formal qualifications but with appropriate relevant vocational experience are also welcome to apply.

If English is not your first language, you will also need a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or above.
